Work

Another word that has several different meanings because it can be used as both a noun and a verb is the word “work.” As a noun, there are two main definitions. The first of these is “obra.” Here is an example:

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6)

The second way that “work” can be used as a noun is to mean “trabalho”. Here is an example:

Cleaning the house can be hard work.

As a verb, “work” has two possible definitions somewhat related to how it is used as a noun. The first of these means “trabalhar.” For example:

If you work tomorrow, we can’t go to the beach.

The second way “work” is used as a verb means “funcionar.” Here is how it is used in a sentence:

The car should work now; I fixed it yesterday.
