O dia da Independência dos Estados Unidos, 4 de julho, é um dia de muito orgulho para os norte-americanos. A canção mais popular neste dia é o “The Star-Spangled Banner”, hino americano.
O “The Star-Spangled Banner” foi composto em 1814, por Francis Scott Key, um advogado e poeta norte-americano.
A inspiração para a letra surgiu em 1812 após o autor presenciar um bombardeio britânico contra o “Forte McHenry”, em Baltimore. Por isso a emblemática letra do hino americano fala sobre Deus, guerras e o triunfo norte-americano.
Apenas dezessete anos depois, em 1931, a canção foi oficializada pelo Congresso como hino americano.
